Western Clip Chart

I thought I would post a picture of the western clip chart that I just finished making for my classroom.  I used my cricut to cut out the shapes and letters.  The cartridge I used was Old West.  I am going to glue laminated black horse cut outs to the clips I am using with this chart.

This chart will go well with the weekly behavior chart that I made that you can find here.

Western Themed Weekly Behavior Chart

The top 4 sections of the chart all get the happy face.  Lassoed gets the straight face and branded gets the sad face.  Children whose clip moves to Yee-Haw also get a sticker in their folders.

DIY Light Box

I came across a website the other day that show how to make a light box.  You can see the site here.  Long story short, I decided to build my own light box for my classroom.  Here is how I did it.

First I started off with my supplies.  I use a clear plastic tote, scissors, packing tape, aluminum foil, an under counter light and some pvc pipe cutters.  Hint:  Don't use pipe cutters to cut the tote.  They will crack it.  Oh, well.  The foil hid the crack.

First cut a small section of the lip of the tote out, so that the cord will fit through.  I forgot to take a picture of this step, but you can see the note later in the instructions.

Next, cover the inside of the tote with aluminum foil and use the packing tape to make sure it will stay.   Do not cover the bottom.  That will be the top of your light box later.

Put your light on the lid of the tote.  Use the packing tape to secure the light.

Now put the bottom on the tote, making sure to run your cord out the hole that you cut.

Lastly, you have your own light box.

I can't wait to take this to school.  I know the kids will love it!

Back to school!

I am sure that everyone is getting in the back to school mode.  I know I am.  I am planning a western theme in my classroom this year.  I found several cute things at Teacher's Pay Teacher's (www.teacherspayteachers.com).  I am sure I am the only one that just found this site, but it is great.  It can be a real time saver (and cheap).  I found the cutest western alphabet on that site.  I was going to make my own, but this one saved me a lot of time and aggravation.

Western Alphabet

Camp Kindergarten sells it for $5.00.  Here is the link http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Western-Alphabet

I also found these super cute month of the year and days of the week cards.

Western Theme Calendar Months  Western Theme Calendar Companion

These are sold by Teresa Wilson.  They sell for $1.00 each.  Here are the links

There are lots, lots more cute things.  Hmmm....I wonder if I can find calendar numbers?

Welcome to my first attempt at a blog!

I am a teacher.  I taught 2 years in 2nd grade and 4 years in Kindergarten.  This will be my first year teaching a Life Skills Special Education class.  It will be 1st through 5th grade.  I hope to post my ideas for my class, as well as, for general education classes.
